The President's Merit Award was chosen and sponsored by Chamber President Sean O'Gorman, owner of Glenn's Import and Domestic Parts and Repair. This award acknowledges an individual or an organization that has made a valuable contribution to the Comox Valley. For 26 years, the Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce has honoured the valued contributions of outstanding local business people through the "George Muir President's" Merit Award. This very personal award offers each Chamber president the opportunity to offer up public thanks and recognition to people who have impacted our lives for the better. President O'Gorman outlined his reasons for choosing Brad Minton. "This year I have picked a person that I first met many years ago when I was first starting out in Business here in the Comox Valley. Over the years I have come to realize just how much this person gives of himself to our community. He is a successful business person who tempers everything he does with understanding and compassion. He is passionate about his community and does not limit the areas where he volunteers. Be it for a day or for his leadership on a Board, he can always be counted on. He volunteers for his church including raising funds for an orphanage by playing a benefit concert. Through his love of music, he has welcomed many a work day playing for Habitat workers while they build. He is a Past President of the Chamber and without his impressive leadership during his tenure as President the Chamber would not be the strong organization it is today. He followed up his years on the Chamber board with being the Area Director on the BC Chamber of Commerce board. He is a quiet, thoughtful man who is always willing to listen. He is well respected by his peers and all those who know him, and he makes this community a better place because he's in it. I am honoured tonight to present this year's George Muir President's Merit award to Brad Minton." | |
