On The Fly with New Owners and New Hours at The Comox Valley Airport

New owners Andrea Wagemaker and Jackie Blocka are following their dream of operating their own business. On November 1st, 2009 they became the new owners of the former business Joe Cartoes on the Fly Café at the Comox Valley Airport. And with the new ownership comes a change in the name to "On the Fly Café".

Andrea is well known in the community for her involvement in a number of business sectors including managing the catering and banquet department at The Westerly Hotel. She is actively involved with the Courtenay Rotary Club and is past president of The Chamber of Commerce.

Ms. Blocka has been involved in the customer service and the hospitality industry for over 15 years including managing catering departments at Crown Isle and The Westerly Hotel.

We are thrilled with the wonderful, warm welcome we have received from the airport staff, tenants and visitors" says Andrea "I see a lot of familiar and smiling faces and it is exciting to start a new journey. Nodding in agreement Ms. Blocka continues "we are happy and excited to be providing a service to the airport that we are both passionate about".

One of the first changes the new owners made was to open the doors at 6:00am. Now travelers can now get that cup of hot java and breakfast with a smile seven days a week. Other improvements to the business will be an emphasis on more locally made "comfort foods" and soon will be offering home baked pies, biscotti, locally made cheesecakes and hearty lunches. Future plans include a revitalization of their current space and a grand re-opening .
