Government of Canada announces easing of border measures for fully vaccinated travellers

As of August 9th there will be:
  • An opening of the Canada-U.S. border to non-essential travel for fully vaccinated U.S. citizens and permanent residents who currently live in the U.S. and are coming directly from the U.S..
  • Expansion of international flights to the four additional preclearance airports and Quebec City.
  • Elimination of the hotel quarantine requirement.
  • New rules for unvaccinated children under 12 years of age who are accompanying a fully vaccinated parent, step-parent, or guardian.
  • An end to temperature checks by CATSA for passengers and non-passengers.
  • A random arrivals testing regime for fully vaccinated travellers.
  • An allowance for Canadian citizens and permanent residents travelling to the U.S. for less than 72 hours to do their pre-entry test in Canada.
The government also indicated that as of September 7th it intends to open Canada's borders for discretionary travel by travellers from any country who have been fully vaccinated.
