WestJet's Non-stop service to Puerto Vallarta returns to YQQ

International scheduled service returned to Comox Valley Airport on the weekend with the resumption of WestJet's non-stop Saturday flight to Puerto Vallarta.

"It is exciting to see the return of the non-stop service to Puerto Vallarta following the forced hiatus brought on by the pandemic. Saturday's flight marks the resumption of all pre-pandemic routes, which along with increasing passenger numbers continue the positive momentum on air service to and from the North Island. This momentum is also welcomed by our airline partners as they work towards full recovery." said Airport CEO Mike Atkins.

Regrettably Saturday saw a system wide IT issue on the WestJet network that delayed some departures, and caused some flight cancellations. Fortunately, the WestJet service to Puerto Vallarta was delayed, but was able to depart later Saturday afternoon.

The new hold room "On The Fly Café" was fully operational, including a licensed seating area, which was a welcome addition for those impacted by flight delays. The enhanced screening services, additional seating and power outlets installed as part of the recent Regional Air Transportation Initiative partially funded through PacifiCan provided a vastly improved passenger experience at the terminal.

The IT issues are being resolved, but WestJet are advising their passengers to follow updates on the WestJet App, or via the WestJet website for updates on their flights and bookings. For general Airline Services for all carriers operating at Comox Valley Airport, including customer service, luggage and booking inquiries see our Airlines page on our website.
